INTERNATIONAL Automobile Federation (FIA) president, Frenchman Jean Todt is scheduled to arrive in Zambia on September 6 for a two-day official visit.
Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) president, Marco Comana and Rally Commission Secretary, Lynn Szeftel confirmed Todt’s visit in separate interviews today.
Szeftel said Todt would be visiting Zambia as part of his tour of selected countries in Southern and East Africa.
She said the ZMSA was organising a press conference for September 7 at InterContinental Hotel in Lusaka at which Todt would talk about the purpose of his maiden visit to Zambia.
She said soon after the briefing, Todt would proceed to visit the Lusaka Motor Club (LMC) in the Showgrounds then leave Zambia later in the day.
"I would like to take this opportunity and thank the management team at InterContinental Hotel for agreeing to host us and the FIA president," Szeftel said.
International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) president, Vito Ippolito of Venezuela visited Zambia in 2009 when he graced the federation’s annual general congress that was held in Livingstone.
Todt was elected FIA president on October 23, 2009 to succeed Max Mosley after defeating Finland’s former World rally champion, Ari Vatanen.
The Frenchman previously served as executive director of Scuderia Ferrari, the Ferrari company’s Formula One constructor.
He was appointed Scuderia Ferrari’s chief executive officer then resigned to assume a ‘special appointment’ within the company’s racing department. (c)ZMSA
