Jassy Singh aims for the finish

TEENAGE rally driver, Jassy Singh says his main object in this year’s Zambia International Rally which revs off at InterContinental Hotel on July 16 is to finish the rally.

Jassy, the second born of 2004 and 2005 FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) winner Muna Singh said in an interview in Lusaka this morning that it was too soon for him to start challenging honours.

The 17-year-old Jassy, who will be at the wheels of a newly acquired VW Golf 3 co-driven by fellow youngster and relative Liam Jolly, said he was still learning the ropes but all the same was looking forward to a successful outing.

The Zambia International Rally is the penultimate round of the six-event FIA’s ARC and has attracted 13 entries that include Muna, winner of this competition last year.

“For the first time I am entering an international rally event, the 2010 Zambia International Rally.

I have waited for this day since I was a young boy and I used to count down how many years I have left and it took forever but now the time has come and I am really excited to put what I have learnt into practice.

I have watched how my dad, Muna Singh prepares his car and himself before and during the rally’s since the 1990’s and I used to go on test drives with him where instead of me watching where we were going I would want to watch what he is doing with his feet by the peddles and how he is changing those gears.

My main objective for this event is just to get to the end; I am not putting up any fights as I am just collecting experience.

I would like to thank my dad for everything he has done for me in getting the car here, in preparing it with me and for giving me useful advice,” he said. ©ZMSA
