The Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) 2009 Awards Gala takes place this evening at Southern Sun Ridgeway Hotel in Lusaka.
ZMSA president Marco Comana said in a press statement that the awards gala has been held annually since 1952 to honour deserving participants, officials, clubs, sponsors and the media.
“As the ZMSA is about to launch into a full 2010 calendar of exciting motor sport events with Sunday’s fun Enduro-Cross out at the Leopards Hill Moto Circuit, we kick-start the New Year with rewarding the champions of 2009 with their official awards at Southern Sun Ridgeway Hotel in Lusaka on Saturday,” he said.
The Honda Zambia Managing Director said participants would be rewarded from disciplines such as 4x4, Enduro, Motocross and Rally disciplines.
“This champions awards evening has been held every year since 1952 and it honours the champions, runner-ups and third place finishers of the national series held in 2009, in all of the four sports namely Motocross, Rally, Enduro and 4x4,” he said.
He said Motocross has the most categories with nine categories ranging from adult right down to the smallest 50cc class for junior five-year old riders.
Comana further said the ZMSA would award the administrator of the year.
“Other honours that will be given will be sportsman of the year. Last year this award went to a rally driver,” he said.
He said there are six clubs, including last year’s winners Ndola Motor Sports Club (NMSC), contesting the best club award.
Comana also unveiled the 2010 local motor sport calendar that starts with today’s function at Southern Sun Ridgeway Hotel to be followed tomorrow by Endurocross set for Leopards Hill Motopark.
“There will be 11 Motocross events, seven Enduro, six 4x4, five Rally, four Sprint Challenges, three Endurocross and two Trail Rides. Other special events will be the Lusaka Siavonga Vintage Cars & Bikes, Mazabuka-Siavonga Trail Ride and Elephant Charge Cars & Bikes,” he said. ©ZMSA
